On 5-4-2011 Vector Engineering presented two basic plans for the future Zuni Blvd. The two basic options are:
1. No change to lanes, limited improvement of lighting and sidewalks, or
2. Reducing lanes by one, and creating left turn lanes, medians, more landscaping, and better sidewalks and lighting. This is what they will propose at the final meeting public meeting #3 “early July”.
A PDF of their Powerpoint presentation is here for review: Zuni Public Meeting 2-05-04 Presentation Slides.
Thanks to Cheryl Harris for attending!
We’re proud to announce Music Under the Dome, made possible through the Bernalillo County Neighborhood Outreach Grant Program.
Every first Tuesday of the month starting in June, a new band will be playing under the dome at the Whittier Community Center. All shows are approximately 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Food trucks will be at the event but you’re welcome to bring your own!
Everyone is encouraged to attend! More info is coming soon but here is the schedule line-up:
June 7: Mala Maña
Albuquerque’s own women’s drum and vocal cumbia band, draws their inspiration from the rhythms of Afro-Colombia’s Atlantic and Pacific coasts, but does not stop there: woven into the mix are contemporary beat-boxing, an African-American traditional, a Caribbean-influenced European pop song, and their own cumbia-inspired, Spanish-language, original compositions.
July 5: Gamelan Encantada
A percussion ensemble with roots in the metallophone orchestras of Southeast Asia, specifically those of Central Java in Indonesia.
In addition to presenting traditional Javanese music, Gamelan Encantada is committed to commissioning and performing contemporary and experimental music, with a focus on works by New Mexican composers.
August 2: Django Rhythm Meat Grinder
Members Robb Janov, Dan Spanogle, Dimi Disanti and Rick Compton have managed to produce an eclectic blend of gypsy jazz, swing and funk fusion, which makes for a most unique musical exploration in today’s synthesized, pop-dominated culture.
September 6: E. Christina Herr leads the band Wild Frontier
Wild Frontier blends Americana ~ Alt Country ~ Folk and Rock ‘n Roll. From the pure simplicity of two vintage acoustic guitars to the full blown dynamics of a 6 piece Band.
The public meeting for Zuni Road Study will now be held on Wednesday, February 09, 2011 at 6:00p at the Highland High School Lecture Hall.
The City of Albuquerque and its consultant, Vector Engineering, are conducting a safety study for Zuni Road between Washington and Moon streets. During the first phase of the study we will be collecting data to determine the existing problems that need to be addressed, as well as soliciting ideas from the community on possible improvements. This will be accomplished by collecting available data relevant to the corridor, conducting a walking survey of the corridor, and holding the first of several public information meetings.
Dear HOA officials:
Recently I shared with you our plans to inform your residents about Kirtland AFB’s continuing efforts to remediate the fuel plume caused by the leakage of jet fuel on the installation. As you may know Kirtland recently received approval by the New Mexico Environmental Department on three of its four plans to continue cleanup efforts, which will include the drilling of monitoring wells in your neighborhoods (on city property) in the very near term. Our desire is to meet with you and your neighbors as soon as possible to properly inform those affected about this effort and answer any questions you may have on Kirtland’s plans.
Our original plan was to meet with your individual HOAs at their regularly scheduled meetings, but because Elder Homestead and Parkland Hills HOAs are not meeting until after the drilling is expected to begin, we have scheduled a community meeting at the Cesar Chavez Community Center this month.
Date: January 20, 2011
Location: Cesar Chavez Community Center
Time: 6:00 – 8:00pm
HOAs invited: Elder Homestead, Parkland Hills and Siesta Hills**
**We are also available to attend the regularly schedule Elder Homestead and Parkland Hills HOAs in February for re-presentation (if desired, otherwise available for Q&A). Please let me know the dates/times/locations.
Siesta Hills has a January 24th meeting scheduled at the Christ United Methodist, Kirtland personnel will attend for re-presentation (if desired, otherwise available for Q&A). Please let me know the time for the meeting.
Date: January 24, 2011
Location: Christ United Methodist Church
Time: TBD
HOA: Siesta Hills
Information regarding Kirtland’s environmental efforts are posted on the “Environmental Issues” page on the Kirtland AFB website http://www.kirtland.af.mil/environment.asp
The quarterly CAB meeting will focus this time on the jet fuel leak. All are welcome to attend. There will be a public comment period at the end of the meeting.
